The population of Wytheville is approximately 9,200 residents and it is located in almost the center of the county. It was created in 1789 and has a long history of being a crossroads for travelers in the region. It was an important site during the Civil War and was attacked twice. Wytheville is located at the crossroads of I-77 and I-81, giving it some importance as a tourist and transportation hub. Nearby communities include Fort Chiswell, Crockett, Allison, Austinville and Max Meadows, just to name a few. It is just 50 miles southwest of Blacksburg, 22 miles west of Pulaski, 100 miles northeast of Johnson City, Tennessee and 90 miles from the Winston-Salem metro area. Wytheville’s prime location helps it live up to its nicknames like “The Hub of Southwest Virginia” and “The Crossroads of the Blue Ridge.” This central location makes it ideal for businesses and residents to live, work and play.
