Botetourt County
Created in 1770 Botetourt County lies in the Roanoke Region of Virginia. Botetourt County is filled with rolling hills, miles of hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail, scenic rivers and streams, historic towns, and beautiful countryside all within majestic mountain backdrops.
Botetourt County was named for Norborne Berkeley, known as Lord Botetourt, who was the Governor of Virginia. It originally comprised a vast area, which included the southern portion of present-day West Virginia and all of Kentucky. Portions were set off to form new counties beginning in 1772 until the current borders were established in 1851.
